On August 24th, 2011, at the (Customer Centric and Trendy Marketing for Construction Business 2011), Tristar introduced, for the first time in Thailand, the Cemen Tech Volumetric Concrete Dispensers. The event was organized by SCCC (Siam City Cement Company Limited), one of the leading cement and concrete technology providers in Thailand. The purpose of this event was to introduce new and innovative technology to the concrete and batching plant industries in Thailand. Over 100 of Thailand's leading cement and concrete producers attended the event, as they had the opportunity to see firsthand the Cemen Tech product line and hear about the many advantages about volumetric mixing of concrete.

The innovative products of Cemen Tech were among the top attractions at the event, and this drew a consistent number of interested visitors to the Tristar booth throughout the entire event. Interest centralized on the versatility, mobility and flexibility of the Cemen Tech products, as well as the cost efficiency and waste reduction in the concrete production process. Numerous seminar delegates requested detailed information, and asked Tristar representatives to arrange follow up meetings to further discuss how the Cemen Tech products can be used to solve some of their current concrete production issues, as well as increase productivity, cost effectiveness and customer service.

Recently Cemen Tech loaned out an MCD2-50T to California State University Chico to help the students in their concrete management program. The concrete management program is one of only a handful available throughout the U.S. that offers a degree in management for those students interested in pursuing a career in the concrete industry. During various courses in the universities concrete curriculum, they cover the topic of volumetric mixers, their possible uses, and numerous other details about them. However, lacking from their immediate resources was the equipment (i.e. a volumetric mixer) necessary to gain hands-on operating experience. That’s where the Cemen Tech MCD2-50T comes in as Brandon Agles, a senior in the Concrete Industry Management program worked with us as part of his capstone project and was responsible for coordinating the arrival of Cemen Tech’s MCD2-50T to their program. While Brandon had several comments we thought it was better to let him describe the experience.

“Like any thing new the machine was a bit daunting at first but the controls of the machine soon became very familiar to us and it wasn’t long before we could adjust the concrete mix instantaneously. During my personal use of the unit, I had the opportunity to utilize working with some of my peers on their various capstone projects. These included matching a 130 year-old decorative moat at a local museum, pouring a pervious flow-through on a decorative slab on campus, pouring a pervious section for a certification class in another part of my capstone, and demonstrating the use and functionality of the machine for one of our CIMT lab sections. Throughout my use of the unit on these and various other projects, I really gained an appreciation of how quick, easy, and truly convenient it is to have the capability of any mix design at your fingertips. I was able to use various admixtures, both liquid AND powdered color, and numerous cement and aggregate types on these projects, and I had no difficulties whatsoever with any of them.”

“Finally, I would like to recognize the great support and collaboration I received from the Cemen Tech team, including Kevin Smith, Doug Opie, Brad Ross, Chris Pisano, and numerous others behind the scenes. Through their efforts, this idea became a very fruitful reality. This was truly an awesome opportunity for our CIM program, and it will continue to be for all of the CIM programs nationwide. It is with such amazing industry support that we truly have a program that is second to none.”

Thank you Brandon as we appreciate the kind words. Our industry is unique in that there has never really been a degreed educational program designated to the concrete industry, but it is slowly taking roots. The public is beginning to realize that there is more to concrete then the material that it consists of, or just ad water and you are done. To the contrary, the concrete industry and the ability to produce quality product and manage such operations is complex and requires qualified educated professionals.

Cemen Tech, one of the founding members of the Volumetric Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (VMMB) announces the successful testing of a volumetric mixer. The Volumetric Mixer manufacturer’s Bureau (VMMB) is an affiliate of The National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA).

The primary mission of the Volumetric Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (VMMB) is to provide standards for Manufactures ensuring quality built mixers that meet or exceed accepted industry standards. In addition, the VMMB promotes the use of volumetric mixers and provides support for the owners and manufacturers who work in this industry.

In an effort to further their mission and demonstrate the versatility and quality of concrete produced from volumetric mixers the VMMB recently sanctioned tests to be completed with both a volumetric mixer and a traditional drum mixer. The tests were conducted by Custom Crete Inc. an Old Castle company the world largest owner of volumetric mixers (owners of Cemen Tech equipment) out of Dallas Texas. Testing for both types of mixers was simultaneously done by Terracon labs as they conducted the test in accordance with ASTM specifications.  Data for slumps, air content, concrete temperature etc were all measured accordingly and the test data was completed and finalized with the traditional break tests.

Numerous test cylinders and samples were taken and revealed that on average the strength of the concrete produced from the volumetric mixer averaged 4300 psi vs. the drum which averaged 3990 psi on twenty-eight day cylinder break sample. Seven day breaks showed the volumetric mixer averaged 3440 psi vs. the drum mixers 3030 psi.  The popularity of volumetric mixers continues to grow as they compliment many drum operations through out the world. In Memorium

Cemen Tech’s founder, Hugh J. Tobler, passed away in Sun City (Phoenix), AZ. on Saturday, May 22, at the age of 89.  Mr. Tobler founded Cemen Tech, Inc. in 1969 as a sales and marketing company selling the Daffin Concrete Mobile.  The company began manufacturing its own line of concrete equipment in the late 1970’s.  Mr. Tobler was a very innovative and optimistic individual.  Under his leadership Cemen Tech grew into a major player in the mobile concrete mixer industry.  In the late 1980’s Mr. Tobler began investigating retirement strategies, and in 1989 set up the Cemen Tech Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).  Through this entity he sold his interests in Cemen Tech to the employees, and today Cemen Tech is 100% employee owned.  Mr. Tobler’s employees knew him as a kind, generous and fair individual.  In 1995 he and his wife Eileen moved to Sun City, AZ, where they enjoyed many activities in retirement.  Mr. Tobler was an avid golfer playing several times each week.

Mr. Tobler was a true giant in the mobile concrete mixer industry.  He led a successful company in the transition from a sales/ marketing company to a successful manufacturing company with its own product line.  He then managed the transformation from single proprietor management system to a corporate system.  He truly realized that the ultimate boss was the customer who freely made a decision whether to purchase or not purchase one’s product.  He worked tirelessly to promote mobile concrete mixers.  To him, problems were opportunities to succeed where others had failed.  Mr. Tobler will be missed by his family and friends, by the employees of Cemen Tech, and by the mobile concrete mixer industry.
